Auroville
Together with the Indian partnership, RENAISSANCE has identified one potential replication site in India: Auroville city.
Poor air quality and unreliable power supplies were identified as key issues in the International Energy Agency’s India Energy Outlook 2015 report. Furthermore, India is expected to surpass China in energy demand by 2040. To minimise the current dependency on fossil fuel consumption and increase the reliability and access to energy in both rural and urban environments, India is looking into setting up local energy systems that are more reliable, less pollutant and help reduce energy poverty in the country.
The following three energy contexts will be explored:
- Rural context and small villages
- Suburban area
- Urban area of a medium town/city
